Health Care

  • Bedford County has been in the midst of a major hospital move that promises even better health care with much nicer surroundings. The old Bedford County Medical Center is scheduled to move in July 2008 to a new $40 million facility across from the airport. The hospital is going to add in an additional $10 million for state-of-the art medical equipment and will be renamed Heritage Medical Center. The Bedford County Medical Center was built in the 1950s and hospital officials and city leaders knew it was time for a change. The county owned the hospital for many years, but sold it in 2005 to Brentwood, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems with the condition that the company build a new facility in five years. Heritage Medical Center is scheduled to open with 60 beds, but will have room for expansion.
